104 THE ROOMS Each room of the Tower interprets a different fragment of its architectural identity. Generous heights, deep-set windows carved into masonry, exposed beams or decorated ceilings are not mere construction elements, but living parts of a narrative. Light enters laterally, never harsh, caressing ancient wooden floors and softly toned walls. Beds — at times theatrical, at times essential — converse with the space without overwhelming it. One does not simply sleep here: one temporarily inhabits a stratification of time and matter. INHABITING TIME
