77 An antique wooden cabinet now holds the room keys. Painted figures and the patina of the timber transform a daily gesture into continuity: access to the rooms passes through a fragment of history. The marble lavabo, set into the wall like a small architectural composition, retains an almost sacred composure — even water here was measure and dignity. In the following pages, the great carved fireplace beneath the frescoes speaks of seasons passed and conversations held around the fire.
