The North The Nabatean Kingdom and the Desert Forts Like all of the Arabian peninsula, this is an arid region rich in vestiges as are in few other areas. It connected Damascus with Medina, favoring pilgrimages and the transport of troops. المنطقة الشمالية مملكة الأنباط و قلاع الصحراء تبدو المنطقة جافة كغيرها من مناطق الجزيرة العربية، و لكنها غنية بآثارها. وتعد مدائن صالح أبرز ما تحتويه بالإضافة إلى العديد من القلاع والحصون والتي تكوّن رغم انعزال بعضها عن الآخر شبكة حماية ذات كفاءة عالية. ويمر بالمنطقة مسار سكة حديد الحجاز التي كانت تربط المدينة المنورة بدمشق ناقلة الحجاج والجنود.
